Things to worry about when traveling to Malta.

Cash, cards and currency exchange

The currency of Malta is the Euro. Credit card payments have become popular, and the number of places where electronic payments can be used is increasing. However, for small amounts of 5 euros or less, cash is often used.

You can exchange cash at the airport or at the exchange office, but it is recommended to bring a certain amount of money from Japan with small bills.

Tips

In Malta, it is customary to tip 5~10% if you receive sufficient service.
However, you do not need to pay a service fee if it has been charged in advance.
You are free to tip individually when you receive good service, but it depends on the facility, so be sure to ask before handing it over.

Public order

In general, security is good and violent crimes rarely occur, but there have been reports of theft such as pickpocketing, theft, and car break-ins. Don't forget to be careful in places with a lot of people, such as downtown areas.

clothing

Winters are slightly warmer than Japan, and summers are about the same as Japan. The humidity and sunlight are different, so the feeling may be a little different.
It is okay to dress as well as in Japan, but it may get cold in the morning and evening and depending on the climate, so it is recommended to wear something that can be cut up or easy to adjust.

Also, the sun is strong, so it is good to have sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.

Visa availability and arrangements

Since Japan and Malta have signed visa exemption arrangements, visas are exempt for stays of up to 3 months for sightseeing or visiting acquaintances.
Malta is a member of the Schengen Area. Therefore, the period of stay in a Schengen country is only allowed to "not exceed a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period". In addition, the validity period must be at least 3 months remaining from the scheduled date of departure from the Schengen area, and you must have a travel document (passport) issued within 10 years.

Required vaccinations

There are no mandatory requirements for travel.
However, travelers from countries at risk of yellow fever and travelers aged 9 months and older who have transited more than 12 hours in countries at risk will be required to present a yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card).
