Cash, cards and currency exchange: The currency of Portugal is the Euro. Currency exchange is possible at airports and banks. Within Portugal, payments are commonly made with debit or credit cards, and Visa or Mastercard are usually accepted.

Tips: There is a tipping culture, but it is primarily to show appreciation or gratitude. A small amount is given as a token of appreciation for good service. When dining at high-end restaurants, it is common to leave a tip of about 5-10%.

Public order: It is said to be one of the countries with a low crime rate in Europe. However, tourists are often targeted for theft as they are assumed to carry cash. There have been many reports of pickpocketing and theft in Lisbon, especially in areas frequented by tourists, so please be cautious.

clothing: Like Japan, Portugal has four seasons. Summers are a bit cooler and more comfortable due to lower humidity compared to Japan. Winters are often slightly warmer.
In summer, the low humidity makes it comfortable, but it can get chilly in the mornings and evenings, so it's advisable to bring a light jacket. In autumn, the temperature fluctuates greatly, so layering is recommended for easy adjustment. In winter, you can get by with a lighter coat than in Japan, but it's better to be prepared for rain as it is frequent. Spring also has unstable weather with frequent rain, so don't forget to prepare rain gear.

Visa availability and arrangements: Based on the visa waiver agreement between Japan and Portugal, visas are waived for short stays of up to three months for purposes such as tourism.
Regarding the Schengen Agreement, which Portugal is a member of, visa-free short stays are only permitted for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period. The maximum stay without a visa is 90 days, and all previous days stayed within the 180-day period are counted as part of the stay, so please be aware.
