Spanish reviews

plane Spain

May 27, 2025

I'm glad I was able to go to a recommended place in a land I didn't know.

I don't want to carry a big luggage, so the pick-up car was helpful. Therefore, it was a luxurious trip, but I was guided sincerely by someone who was fluent in Japanese in every place (after all, it was easy for people who could speak Japanese)
The Portuguese driver was also nice (from a hotel in Porto on a narrow road to Óbidos → Lisbon)

I asked oooh to take a hotel, but I think it would have been reassuring if I could have a little more details (such as the interpreter's and driver's fees).

Overall, I think it was a good arrangement.

I was concerned that there might be a time difference or language problems when communicating with Karin, but Okura-san followed up well and there were no communication problems at all.

I don't know if it's cheap in terms of price, but the quality of the local guide was high, and the car to move was comfortable in Mercedes.

This time, I had trouble paying for the hotel in Madrid, but I think it would have been better if I could have received the payment statement in advance.

What kind of country is Spain?

Spain, the 'Land of Passion,' is located on the Iberian Peninsula, bordered by the Bay of Biscay to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. It is a country rich in diverse geography and culture.

Spain boasts a history spanning over 10,000 years, from prehistoric times to the present. It is home to historical landmarks like the Alcázar Castle, known as Snow White's Castle, built in the 12th century, and fascinating modernist architecture by Antoni Gaudí. Additionally, there are numerous natural attractions, such as the Ordesa-Monte Perdido National Park in the Pyrenees bordering France.

Spain is culturally renowned for bullfighting and flamenco, as well as its unique culinary traditions, such as the tapas culture—small dishes paired with drinks at bars, reminiscent of Japanese izakayas. It offers countless local delights that can only be experienced there.

Spain is surprisingly vast, so consult with a local advisor to create a tailor-made trip that fulfills your desires.

Cash, cards and currency exchange
The currency in Spain is the Euro. Currency exchange is available at airports and banks, but it is often more favorable to exchange money in Japan beforehand. Credit cards are widely accepted at restaurants and shops, and in recent years, even small amounts can be paid using cards. However, carrying a small amount of cash can be convenient.
Tips
Tipping is not a fundamental part of Spanish culture, so you don't need to worry about it too much. In practice, at bars and restaurants, people often round up the bill or leave a tip of around 5% as a gesture of appreciation. In high-end restaurants, however, it is common to leave a tip of about 10%.
Tipping is not necessary at hotels or for taxis, but rounding up the fare for taxis is generally customary.
Public order
Spain is considered a relatively safe country, but in tourist destinations like Madrid and Barcelona, pickpocketing and theft are not uncommon, so caution is advised. Scams targeting tourists also occur, so it's best to stay vigilant, especially in urban areas.
clothing
Spain has four distinct seasons, similar to Japan, so it's recommended to dress according to the season. In summer, lightweight dresses or breezy clothing are ideal, but since the sun can be strong, having a light jacket or sunglasses will make your experience more comfortable. In autumn and spring, the weather changes daily rather than gradually, so adjustable clothing is recommended. In winter, a slightly lighter coat than what you'd wear in Japan is usually sufficient.
Things you should bring
Multi-plug adapter, essential medications, portable battery, travel insurance, mobile SIM or WiFi
Visa availability and arrangements
Japan and Spain have an agreement for visa exemption for short stays, allowing visits for tourism or visiting acquaintances for up to 90 days without requiring a visa. Additionally, as Spain is part of the Schengen Agreement, travelers eligible for visa exemption must have a passport issued within the last 10 years and valid for at least three months beyond the planned departure date.
Required vaccinations
There is no mandatory travel
