Cash, cards and currency exchange
The Euro is used in the Netherlands.
Currency exchange is available at exchange offices, banks, and hotels. Cashless payment methods, such as credit cards and mobile payments, are widely accepted and commonly used, so there is little need for cash.
For public transportation and shopping, cash is rarely needed. It's sufficient to carry a small amount for visits to markets or rural areas.
Tips
Tipping is generally not required in the Netherlands. However, it is appreciated for good service. Restaurants and cafes usually include a service charge, so tipping is unnecessary, but leaving around 10% for exceptional service is common.
For taxis, it is customary to tip around 10%.
