Cash, cards and currency exchange
The euro is used in the Netherlands.
You can exchange money at currency exchange offices, banks, and hotels. Cashless payments using credit cards or mobile devices are widely accepted, so you don’t need to carry much cash.
For public transportation and shopping, you can get by with little or no cash. It’s enough to carry a small amount for visits to markets or when traveling to rural areas.
Tips
Tipping is generally not required in the Netherlands. However, if you receive good service, it is appreciated to leave a small tip. Restaurants and cafes usually include a service charge, so tipping is not necessary. In cases of exceptional service, it is common to leave around 10%.
For taxis, it is customary to tip about 10%.
For hotel porter services, it is common to give a tip of about 1 to 5 euros.

Public order
