After eight years at a Japanese travel agency specializing in remote destinations—gaining expertise in planning, sales, and tour escorting—I was enchanted by Guatemala during a single day as a tour escort and moved there alone. In Guatemala, I worked for ten years as a cultural and public relations officer at the Embassy of Japan in Guatemala.
Building a network in Guatemala and wishing to share its appeal with more people in Japan, I established a government-approved travel agency with my husband, Shingo Matsumoto, in January 2004. I am certified as a travel service supervisor and as a government-approved guide by the Guatemala Tourism Board, and have been in the travel industry for over 30 years.
