This two-day plan to summit Yushan (Jade Mountain), Taiwan’s highest peak at 3,952 meters, offers a rare mountaineering experience where you can enjoy some of Asia’s most stunning scenery and a true sense of achievement.

From the Yushan trailhead, you’ll head to Paiyun Lodge for your overnight stay, then set out early the next morning to reach the summit for sunrise. Majestic views of a sea of clouds and mountain ranges unfold before you, and on clear days, the sky is painted with the orange glow of the rising sun.

With well-maintained trails and a guide accompanying you, even beginners can feel at ease.

Itinerary details

  • Day 1

    Scenery within Taiwan’s Yushan National Park

    Pick-up, Yushan trailhead, and on to Paiyun Lodge

    6:30 Pick-up at Taiwan High Speed Rail Chiayi Station or your accommodation

    7:00-9:00 Travel by private vehicle up the mountain roads toward the Yushan trailhead

    9:30- Begin your hike from the Yushan trailhead with your guide, taking a break at Menglu Pavilion along the way as you head toward today’s destination, Paiyun Lodge
    *The Yushan trailhead route has gentle elevation changes, allowing you to gradually gain altitude at a comfortable pace.

    15:30 Arrive at Paiyun Lodge
    Located 8.5 km from the Yushan trailhead, Paiyun Lodge is the only mountain hut offering accommodation on the way to the summit. It accommodates up to 160 people per night, with shared facilities such as toilets, changing rooms, and a dining area on the first floor. The second floor is divided into smaller sleeping rooms, each equipped with large bunk beds where you’ll lay out your sleeping bag to rest.
