I gained expertise in planning, sales, and escorting tours for 8 years at a travel agency specializing in Japan's hidden gems. Then, captivated by Guatemala, which I visited on a single-day escort tour, I moved to Guatemala alone. I worked for 10 years as a cultural and public relations officer at the Japanese Embassy in Guatemala. Building connections in Guatemala, I established a government-approved travel agency in January 2004 with my husband, Shingo Matsumoto, to introduce Guatemala's charms to more Japanese people. I have over 30 years of experience in the travel industry, holding qualifications as a Travel Business Manager and a government-approved guide in Guatemala. I will deliver the charms of Guatemala and Central America to your heart's content!

At my previous job at a major travel agency, I assisted Japanese expatriates and companies in South America. With the support of the Japanese community, I learned about the unique business customs of South America and realized how challenging these countries can be. This experience inspired me to start my own business, aiming to provide the speed, quality, and meticulous service expected by Japanese clients. Drawing on nearly 10 years of experience in the travel industry in Brazil, I strive every day to become the only local operator who can clearly propose and explain the often complex local details in these distant destinations from Japan.

After eight years at a Japanese travel agency specializing in remote destinations—gaining expertise in planning, sales, and tour escorting—I was enchanted by Guatemala during a single day as a tour escort and moved there alone. In Guatemala, I worked for ten years as a cultural and public relations officer at the Embassy of Japan in Guatemala.
Building a network in Guatemala and wishing to share its appeal with more people in Japan, I established a government-approved travel agency with my husband, Shingo Matsumoto, in January 2004. I am certified as a travel service supervisor and as a government-approved guide by the Guatemala Tourism Board, and have been in the travel industry for over 30 years. I am excited to share the wonders of Guatemala and Central America with you!

Since childhood, I have always been interested in other countries. Even after I started earning my own money in university and later in society, I would spend my free time thinking about where I wanted to go next. (Though I didn’t have much money, so I couldn’t often travel outside Japan...) Sometimes, I would set off from Narita alone, with only a plane ticket in hand and just a rough plan.
Now, I find myself living in South America—something I never imagined. These days, I truly feel that you never know what life has in store.
However, after starting my life in Ecuador and discovering its wonderful tourism resources and traditional crafts, I began to wish that more people around the world could learn about them. Hoping to contribute, even in a small way, to the country's development, I decided to join a local travel agency.
A place you might think of as 'the other side of the world'—so far away—may feel much closer once you visit. Let’s leave everyday life behind and share new encounters and experiences together. I look forward to welcoming you on the other side of the world.

Cash, cards and currency exchange
・Exchange currency by obtaining US dollars in Japan and exchanging them for Quetzals at local airports, banks, or currency exchange offices. However, since US dollars can often be used directly, a small amount of exchange should suffice.
・In small shops, change may not be readily available, so it's convenient to have small bills on hand.
・Credit cards can be used at hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops. However, not all establishments accept cards, so it's recommended to use a combination of cash and cards during your stay.
Tips
- Tipping is customary.
・Restaurants: A tip of 5-10% is customary, but it's not necessary at casual eateries.
・Hotel room service, tour guides, and drivers: Please tip according to the quality of service.
Public order
・The security situation in Guatemala is poor.
・As a transit point for drugs, murders and robberies involving drug organizations occur frequently. Additionally, since firearm possession is legal, crimes involving guns are also observed.
・To stay safe in Guatemala, do not go out at night. Even during the day, avoid being alone and do not pass through alleys with few people or dark areas.
clothing
・Throughout the year, you can wear summer clothes like T-shirts during the day. However, since most tourist spots in Guatemala are in highlands, it is expected to get quite cold in the mornings and evenings. Therefore, prepare something to wear over your clothes.
・Especially from November to February, warm clothing is necessary.
Things you should bring
・Gastrointestinal medicines, cold medicines, mobile batteries, wet wipes, tissues, sunburn goods, etc.
Visa availability and arrangements
・Japanese nationals do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days for tourism purposes. However, this is only applicable if the passport has at least six months of validity remaining at the time of entry.
Required vaccinations
・There are no mandatory requirements for travel. However, vaccinations for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and rabies are recommended.
・Due to worsening air pollution in Guatemala, those with respiratory or allergy conditions need to be particularly cautious.
